Spekvet & Gesond is a college design brief where I was asked to redesign the traditional South African cookbook. South Africa has such a wide variety of cultures, that I decided to focus on the Afrikaans community, to design more to a specific group of people. Customary to Afrikaans families they tend to pass down recipes from one generation to the following. Making use of these recipes, and designing the ingredients in a 'secret' family code, I created modern day cards with the typical Afrikaans family recipes.
There are extra cards added to the collection with no recipes designed on them. These were added with the intent that family members who are in possession of the box, are able to add their own recipes. This wooden box with the cards would then be passed down to the next generation; and so these special recipes are forever kept in the family.
